Check Rock County Arrest Records

Police, jail staff, prosecutors, courts, and the state repository each record a different part of an arrest. To look up Rock County arrest records, first identify the arresting agency and whether the person may still be in county custody. Then use the agency report channel, court index, and Wisconsin history system for the parts each office holds. Rock County arrest history cannot be proven by one public roster because the county does not publish one. An arrest entry describes an allegation and custody event. It does not show guilt, and the filed charge or final court result may be different.

Rock County Arrest History

The Rock County Sheriff's Office, city and town police departments, and other authorized agencies can make arrests in the county. The agency creates an incident or arrest report. If detention follows, Rock County Jail staff create the booking and custody record. A prosecutor then decides whether to file charges, and the circuit court records those filed counts and later events.

Those files overlap, but none is a full Rock County arrest history by itself. A police narrative explains the event and officer action. Jail data answers custody questions. Wisconsin DOJ can associate reportable fingerprint-supported arrest cycles with dispositions. A court file shows what the district attorney filed, not every allegation an officer first recorded. Start by deciding which of those questions needs an answer.

Major city channels differ. Janesville Police Records is at 100 N Jackson Street and answers 608-755-3100. Beloit Police Records is at 100 State Street and answers 608-364-6801. Edgerton Police can be reached at 608-884-3321, but the city spans Rock and Dane Counties, so the event location can change the jail and court path. Sheriff cases use the county records unit at the jail complex.

Rock County Has No Public Roster

The current county website does not expose an official searchable Rock County Jail roster. That absence changes the lookup path. Do not substitute an unofficial inmate or people-search service. For current or very recent custody, call the jail's 24-hour operations line at 608-757-8000 or the jail-records line at 608-757-7958. The lobby and a focused Sheriff records request are also valid channels.

Wisconsin VINE can supplement a custody check and provide notification functions. The Wisconsin DOC Offender Locator becomes relevant after state transfer or for DOC supervision. Neither source is a public Rock County booking archive. An absent VINE or DOC result does not prove that an arrest never occurred.

Rock County operates one jail complex at 200 E US Highway 14 in Janesville for sentenced and unsentenced adults. Operations run around the clock. Jail records, the operations desk, the lobby, VINE, and NextRequest form the documented access chain when no roster is available.

Best current-custody route: Call Rock County Jail and provide the person's full name plus birth date when known.

Looking Up Rock County Arrests

A complete Rock County arrest lookup uses each official channel for its own purpose. Keep the incident number, exact name, arrest date, and arresting agency together as the search moves from custody to report, case, and state history.

  1. Identify the arresting agency. Use the county's law-enforcement agency inventory when the city or town is known but the office is not.
  2. Call Rock County Jail at 608-757-8000 or jail records at 608-757-7958 for current or recent custody. There is no official web roster.
  3. Request the arrest or incident report from the agency that created it. For a Sheriff report, call 608-757-7951 or submit through NextRequest.
  4. Search WCCA for a filed Rock County Circuit Court case. Match identity and dates, then read the filed counts and dispositions.
  5. Use Wisconsin DOJ's WORCS when the question concerns Wisconsin criminal-history data tied to an identity, not merely one local incident.

For Janesville and Beloit events, check the official city arrest publication as a further lead. A publication entry still requires court follow-up if charges were filed.

Inside a Rock County Arrest Record

Rock County does not promise these fields through a public roster. They are items that may exist across the agency report and jail record, subject to release law and redaction. Ask for the exact component needed instead of requesting every file tied to a name.

Incident identityAgency incident number, arrest date, time, location, agency, and officer.
Alleged offensesArresting charges and cited statutes before prosecutorial review.
Arrest basisProbable-cause narrative or warrant number and issuing court when releasable.
Booking detailsBooking date, time, name number, transport destination, and intake data when released.
Custody and bondInitial appearance, bond information, release, hold, or transfer status.
Associated materialProperty sheet, fingerprint transaction data, or booking photo if held and lawfully released.

Juvenile, victim, driver, medical, informant, security, and active-investigation information may be withheld. A booking photo is a requestable record category, not a promised public image. This page republishes no booking photos or names.

Rock County City Arrest Logs

Janesville Police publishes monthly adult-arrest reports. The publication is an official city source, but it is not a county jail roster or a conviction list. Use the listed details to locate a filed case in WCCA. Call Janesville Police Records at 608-755-3100 when the report itself is needed.

Beloit Police links an official arrest-log archive and daily media reports from its police information page. Beloit Records can be reached at 608-364-6801 or pdrecords@beloitwi.gov. Other Rock County agencies do not all publish matching logs. Contact the agency records unit instead of assuming silence means there was no arrest.

Note: City arrest publications cover that police department's activity, not every arrest made throughout Rock County.

Booking Logs and Recent Arrests

Recent Rock County arrest information is split among jail phone records, the arresting agency, and city publications. A person booked at the county jail may have been arrested by the Sheriff, Janesville Police, Beloit Police, or another agency. The county jail record begins at intake, while the officer's report begins with the investigated event.

Initial appearances take place by jail-to-courthouse video on weekdays at 3:00 p.m. That court event can create a WCCA trail once a case is filed, but timing gaps occur. The district attorney independently reviews the referral. A booking charge may be amended, omitted, or replaced when the complaint is filed. For that reason, pair any recent arrest source with the later Rock County court file.

Rock County Arrest Record Flow

One Rock County arrest creates a chain, not a single master record. The arresting agency writes the narrative. Jail staff record booking and custody. Fingerprints from a qualifying arrest may move through state and federal identification systems. The district attorney chooses filed counts, and the clerk creates the court case. Agencies and courts then report qualifying data and dispositions to the Wisconsin DOJ Crime Information Bureau.

Record flow: Officer Report › Jail Booking › Fingerprint Cycle › Prosecutor Review › Circuit Court Case › DOJ Disposition Match

Differences can arise when fingerprints were not taken, names or birth dates differ, the disposition has not yet been reported, or an ordinance matter never became a criminal filing. Correct the source record with its custodian. A WCCA court result cannot be changed by asking jail staff, and an agency narrative cannot be corrected through WORCS.

Rock County Arrest Report Redactions

The Wisconsin Public Records Law favors access, but it does not require every detail to be released. The custodian applies statutes and the common-law balancing test. Rock County Sheriff records can redact driver data, protected addresses, victims and witnesses, confidential informants, juveniles, medical facts, facility-security information, and details that would harm an active enforcement matter.

A request does not need special words. Make it definite with the event, date, location, agency number, person, and desired format. Written denials must state reasons and identify the responsible authority. Dispatch audio, CAD, and 911 records have a separate custodian at the Rock County Communications Center, while police narratives remain with the police agency.

The Communications Center accepts mail, email, and counter requests for CAD, 911, and radio material. Its record is not the officer's arrest report. Asking both custodians may be necessary when a Rock County arrest question depends on the dispatch call as well as the officer narrative.

Rock County Warrants and Arrests

Rock County has no countywide public warrant name-search portal. The Sheriff's warrant page, Warrant Unit at 608-757-7947, WCCA, Janesville's monthly list, Beloit Most Wanted, and a Sheriff records request are the documented channels. WCCA is not real-time confirmation, and sealed or juvenile matters may not appear.

Call first. The Sheriff verifies a warrant before action. A bondable warrant may be satisfied through the required bond, while a body-only warrant requires surrender and a court appearance the next business day. An arrest warrant, bench warrant, commitment, body attachment, and juvenile capias are not interchangeable terms.

Arrests Are Not Convictions

An arrest records an officer action or booking. It does not decide guilt. A conviction follows a guilty plea or finding and a court judgment. The filed charge can differ from the arresting allegation, and a case may end through dismissal or acquittal. Read the final disposition for each count.
